STURGEON BAY — A Door County couple are now the proud owners of an iconic local Allouez grocery store.

Adam Goettelman and Caitlin Oleson, owners of Healthy Way Market in downtown Sturgeon Bay, posted news of the sale Wednesday morning on social media.

“We’re thrilled to share that we’ve officially taken ownership of the iconic Austin’s of Allouez / Sal’s Foods and we will be opening a second location in Green Bay,” the wrote.

Sal’s closed in March, and prior to 2021 was originally Austin’s of Allouez. The store is located at 3823 S. Webster.

The store will reopen in October or November following remodeling.

The new owners say they weren’t actively looking for a second store, but we’ve always loved the place—and when it suddenly became available in March, they threw their hat in the ring and see what might happen.

Over the years, they say they’ve been asked many times when we’d bring a store to Green Bay area.

With support from Sal and Jessica at Sal’s Foods, the Small Business Development Center at UWGB, and Nicolet National Bank, they were able to close on the deal.

“This is one of the last true corner grocery stores in Green Bay, and as far as we’re concerned, a local landmark,” they said. “We’re honored to continue the legacy of this beloved neighborhood spot, which reminds us so much of our Sturgeon Bay location, while bringing more local produce, natural and organic groceries, and supplements to the Green Bay community. We’re excited to bring a little bit of that Door County magic to Green Bay.”
