EPHRAIM — Wisconsin Public Service is reporting multiple power outages remain throughout Door County after a strong storm with high winds whipped through the Peninsula Saturday afternoon.
Due to significant storm damage in Northern Door County, Door County Emergency Management is asking the public to stay off the roads and avoid all fallen debris and downed power lines.
UPDATES
- 3:20 p.m.: WIS 42 North remains CLOSED from Scandia Road to Hill Road just north of Sister Bay.
- 2 p.m. The storms that came through yesterday have caused heavy damage to the south part of the Newport State Park. All trails and campsites to the south are closed until further notice.
- 1 p.m. The Sister Bay Fire Station at 2258 Mill RD, Sister Bay will be open today, Sunday, Aug. 10, as a Reception Center from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Today.

- 12:30 p.m. Sunday: Expect storms to develop over portions of central and east-central Wisconsin late this afternoon as a slow-moving cold front approaches from the west. Periods of heavy rain, with hourly rainfall rates approaching 1 to 2″/hour, will be possible at times. Greatest risk for urban and lowland flooding will be along and south of Hwy 10 later this afternoon and evening.
- 11:45 a.m.: Immanuel Lutheran Church, Baileys Harbor is open today for personal use. Their kitchen is available.
- 11 a.m. Some Ephraim businesses are now reporting that they don’t expect power to be restored until Monday.
- 11 a.m. The Door County YMCA has power. If you need to charge phones or take hot showers(bring your own towel) stop in. They are open Sunday until 1 p.m. at both program centers.
- 9:39 a.m. Sunday: Most Ephraim businesses are still without power, according to village authorities, and cleanup will take time. Please be patient as businesses try to open as quickly, and safely, as they can.
- Cana Island is CLOSED until further notice. Crews are working today to clear the island. It’s estimated that 30% of the trees have been lost. It’s not safe to be there. Please give crews the courtesy of space to do their jobs safely and stay off the island until it’s been made safe.
- Main Street Market in Egg Harbor is open with power.
- Trees and wires remain down Sunday on various roadways, according to the Egg Harbor Fire Department. WPS Crew are working to restore power, there are no estimated times for restoring power due to the damage.
- DO NOT drive around barricades, cones or tape. It is there to protect you from the hazard beyond.
- Thunderstorms are slowly lifting into the Fox Valley early Sunday morning. Main concern with these storms is periods of heavy rain. Scattered storms are expected to be on and off much of the day with the potential for a few stronger storms capable of producing damaging winds this afternoon and evening.

- SATURDAY
- Hundreds of trees are reported down around Ephraim, and emergency crews were working to clear roadways.
- Cana Island received damage in Saturday’s storms. No one has been hurt. Guests have been evacuated from the island and are in the parking area awaiting crews to clear the roadway so they can safely leave. There are many trees down on the island and one is on the interpretive center (which is why guests are now in the parking area).
- CANA ISLAND WILL BE CLOSED ON SUNDAY as we work to clear debris and make damage assessments.
- The Ridges Cook-Albert Fuller Nature Center and all properties and trails are closed until further notice due to storm damage and downed trees.
The National Weather Service in Green Bay issued a Flood Watch Saturday for portions of central and east-central Wisconsin, including the Fox Valley.
Rain amounts of 1 to 3 inches with isolated amounts of 4 inches were predicted.
