GREEN BAY — Authorities say they have recovered the bodies of two children, but the father remains missing, two days after the family’s sailboat was last seen near Door County.

According to Brown County Emergency Management, 32-year-old Bill Salnick was last seen at 5 p.m. Saturday at Green Island near Egg Harbor with his two children, ages 5 and 3 on their sailboat. He said he was headed back to Oconto.

In a news cinference Monday, Door County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Pat McCarty said the boat was discovered Monday morning near Chambers Island.

At about 11:20 a.m., McCarty said that the bodies of two children were found in the water approximately a mile south of where the sailbost was recovered. Salnik has yet to be found.

The family was sailing in a small blue sailboat named My Lady Blue.

The U.S. Coast Guard in Sturgeon Bay says they used helicopters, boats and the HC-130 in searches around the peninsula.
