EGG HARBOR — A fire Thursday at Main Street Market in Egg Harbor was quickly extinguished without any injuries.
According to a social media post Friday from the grocery, Sam from the store was shoveling snow outside the back door and saw flames on the roof.
He went inside and quickly told everyone to get out and called 911.
Within minutes a sheriff’s deputy arrived and the first firefighters.
The cause of the fire was determined to be the heat tape that is on the roof of the building, according to the post.
Once the breaker was flipped off, the flames were extinguished and no roof shingles caught fire.
Firefighters then went through the compressor room into the truss structure of the roof and found no internal damage to the building – and no smoke damage.
Store staff and customers were calm and understanding, according to the post.
Mutual Aid Partners from Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Dept, Baileys Harbor Fire and Rescue, Ephraim Firefighters Association, Jacksonport Fire Dept, Gibraltar Fire – Rescue Association Inc., Sturgeon Bay Fire Department, Door County Sheriff’s Office, Gibraltar Police, Door County EMS and Door County Dispatch assisted with the call.
All fire units cleared the scene at approximately 2:15 p.m.
“We cannot thank them enough. You certainly hope you never need to make that call but we are absolutely grateful to the fantastic response from our local firefighters. We have gotten so many messages and calls from people – thank you for your thoughts and prayers,” the store wrote in its post.
