DOOR COUNTY — The Climate Change Coalition of Door County is organizing dozens of groups to plant thousands of trees over a four-week period in celebration of Earth Day through its Door County Big Plant project.
Earlier this week, the coalition received more than 6,000 seedlings, according to a post on their Facebook page. They’ll be working over the next week to get them ready to go out to the many local organizations that plan to give them away and plant them over the next month.
The group says its mission is to foster a sense of community throughout Door County while also taking action to plant trees where the community can reap the benefits of planting more trees.
They point out the many benefits of planting trees, including: carbon sequestration, groundwater and stream protections, shading to reduce air conditioning needs, soil protections, and beauty.
From April 22, 2022 through May 23, 2022, people can participate by creating and facilitating a tree planting project with a group or community, volunteer to plant trees on a public tree planting day, support projects in their community or plant trees on their own property during this monthlong project.
