STURGEON BAY — Authorities are searching for an escaped wild mustang after it was seen swimming near Door County’s Potawatomi State Park.

The Door County Sheriff’s Office was called about 2 p.m. Sunday to the area of Bay Shore Drive in Sevastopol for a report of a loose horse.

The horse entered the bay of Green Bay, swimming from Bay Shore Drive to Potawatomi State Park, according to the sheriff.

The horse continued running around Grondin Road, Duluth Ave, and was last seen in the area of County S and Wilson Road, south of the state park and on the outskirts west of Sturgeon Bay.

Several attempts to contain the horse were unsuccessful.

The owner said the horse is a wild mustang and asked that you not approach or try to catch it.

Instead, contact the Door County Communications Center at (920) 746-2416 with a location.

If driving around this area, slow down and be aware that a horse is loose in Southern Door County.
