SEVASTOPOL TOWNSHIP — A 24-year-old Madison man drowned Saturday in Clark Lake, according to the Door County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office says they were called about 8 p.m. Saturday about a man in distress in the water near Grady Road just west of the public beach on the southern tip of the lake.

Multiple first responders arrived at the scene and an unresponsive man was recovered shortly after 8:30 p.m.

The victim, a 24-year-old Madison man, was taken by ambulance to the Door County Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, according to the sheriff’s office.

No further information is being released at this time. This incident remains under investigation. The name of the victim is not being released pending notification of the next-of-kin.

Units from the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department, Jacksonport Fire Department, Door County Emergency Services Department and Door County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, as did the Door County Dive Team, a multi-jurisdictional team comprised of officers from the Door County Sheriff’s Office, Sturgeon Bay Police Department, Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Door County Emergency Services.Search efforts began as emergency responders arrived on the scene.
